I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). At the heart of my practice is the understanding that our relationship is the key component for successful therapeutic outcomes.
As an Integrative Counsellor I have gained the knowledge that a tailored, individual approach is necessary in order to adhere to all specific needs by using key counselling modalities to suit the individualism of each client. Together we will plan a way of working that will help you understand and manage your current difficulties.
Whilst many of us have supportive family and friends who can help with difficulties we face, at times, the closeness of these relationships can detract from our personal journey of growth and discovery. Whilst I appreciate that the thought of counselling may be a difficult step, we will walk the journey together. Offering a neutral perspective throughout sessions, we will explore any issues you wish to share. Providing a therapeutic relationship with honesty and empathy, we will explore any issue within a non-judgmental and confidential space at a pace which enables thorough reflection and scope for change.
I counsel clients on a self-referral basis or through an Employee Assisted Programme of therapeutic support.
I work from two private practices in Kings Norton, Birmingham and Harborne, Birmingham. Both locations are easily accessible by car or public transport and offer on-street parking, free of charge. Both premises are also accessible for disabled clients.

"I would like to thank you for the help that you gave me. The sessions you provided were essential for me to come to terms with the difficulties I was facing. Your experience, insight, and intelligence meant that you easily saw through to the core of my issues, and you provided me with strategies and understanding for how to cope with them. I needed that help, and I'm glad I found you. I am in a much better place now, and would not hesitate to use your services again if I were to need them, and I have already recommended you".

“Julie Wilkes helped me through a very difficult time in my life and I am enormously grateful for the benefit of her experience and expertise. I was having some very challenging relationship issues that Julie was able to guide me through and help me come to terms with. The therapy environment was welcoming and attentive and a good forum through which to explore what needed to be discussed. Since visiting Julie, I am glad to say that my relationship is better than ever. Thank you Julie!” Testimonial by A.M.

"Recently after a major life changing event, I decided that I needed professional help in the form of counselling. I searched online for local therapists and found Julies’ details, I booked the first session easily, the time and location was very convenient for me. When I first met Julie I immediately felt at ease with her in what was a very difficult and traumatic time for me, Julie was very empathetic and understanding of my situation, I carried on with weekly appointments for a while, it felt very comfortable to me and I could talk openly and freely about difficult subjects. Julie helped me work through my feelings and emotions and helped me immensely.
I would definitely recommend to anyone who is in a difficult place to consider counselling, without Julies’ help I’m not sure where I would have been.
I’m so grateful to her and the help and support she gave to me".

"My experience with Julie was fantastic. It was wonderful to have someone who would listen and support without judgement, and work with me to get my self-esteem to where I wanted it to be. I would have really struggled to get to where I am now without her help. I can't thank her enough."

"I had the fortunate pleasure of been allocated Julie as my counsellor. Our relationship was quickly established whilst remaining professional throughout. I was able to share everything with Julie, which enabled me to move forward from the traumas I have experienced"

"I first approached Julie as I was having relationship issues and needed someone objective to talk to.
It was immediately clear that Julie was kind, calm, thoughtful and professional. She made me feel at ease (I had some apprehensions as I'd never been to counselling before) and I felt like I could trust her and confide my personal issues in confidence and without judgement. Julie helped me work through some complex issues and helped me to gain self-confidence and self-worth, something that I didn't even realise was missing. After seeing her, I feel so much better, happier, more stable and more in control of my life.
I would absolutely recommend Julie to anybody needing a kind and perceptive person to talk to. I can't express the difference it's made to all aspects of my life."
I provide a calm, caring and supportive environment where you can reflect and find meaning to your thoughts and feelings. Together we will find a way through your difficulties.
